Meta Tag Generator
Build title, description and social tags that preview correctly.
Metadata that survives the preview
A page can rank well and still get ignored because the title is cut off or the description is missing. This generator builds the tags and shows you how they will look before you paste them.
How to use it
- Enter your page title and description.
- Add the canonical URL and a social image.
- Check the character counters and the preview.
- Copy the HTML into your
<head>.
The tags that matter
Title. The clickable line in search results. Keep the main phrase near the front.
Description. The two lines below the title. Write it for a person, not for a crawler.
Canonical. Tells search engines which URL is the original when the same page can be reached in several ways.
Open Graph. og:title, og:description, og:image and og:url control link previews.
Twitter card. summary_large_image shows a wide image on X.
Practical limits
| Field | Safe limit |
|---|---|
| Title | 50 to 60 characters |
| Description | 150 to 160 characters |
| OG title | 60 to 70 characters |
| OG description | 100 to 200 characters |
| OG image | 1200 by 630 pixels |
Titles and descriptions that exceed the limit are usually rewritten by the search engine rather than simply cut. The rewrite often drops your key phrase.
Once the tags are in place, Slug Generator gives you a matching URL, and Robots.txt Generator controls crawler access.
Frequently asked
How long should a meta title be?
Around 50 to 60 characters. Google truncates longer titles in results, and the cut often removes the most specific part.
How long should a meta description be?
Around 150 to 160 characters. It is not a ranking factor, but it affects click through rate.
What are Open Graph tags?
They control how a link looks when shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and most messaging apps. Without them, the platform guesses.
Do I need Twitter tags too?
They are optional now, because most platforms read Open Graph. Including them is still safe and gives finer control.
